Context
Becoming MMD Lead, and having my own team.
When I became MMD (Marketing, Media, Design) Lead, the club was growing rapidly, but our website no longer reflected the scale of our community or the quality of work our members were producing. It focused mostly on basic club information and barely highlighted our events, competition winners, or student-built projects. Our alumni and community initiatives were also split across a separate website, making the experience feel fragmented. During the summer, our design team became heavily constrained by internships and time zones, so I stepped up to lead the website redesign and help shape BizTech’s broader digital identity.

Challenges
Primary Challenge

Secondary Challenge
We needed a Revamp. The existing pages felt cluttered, difficult to navigate, and lacked a clear design system. Everything was basically just slapped in one page. I had to balance strategic decisions, visual design, and team coordination while working with limited design capacity.

Ideation
How we wanted to stand out
Before designing, I reviewed websites from other well-known UBC clubs such as NW+ and PMC. Although many of them looked visually amazing, I felt that they were often too overwhelming and didn’t communicate much about the people or projects behind the organization. That insight pushed me, and our club president toward a startup-incubator inspired direction that emphasized products, campaigns, community impact, and member achievements. I structured the experience around a simple question: What can someone build in BizTech, and who has already built something meaningful here?

Solution
Using information prioritization and data analytics
I redesigned the entire BizTech web experience in Framer, combining our main site, alumni network, and community involvement pages into a single cohesive platform. The new structure prioritized project showcases, competition outcomes, member stories, and community impact rather than just executive information. And the key was, all of these information were separated into different pages, where people could explore more and digest the information at their own time.
I also created reusable design components and organized the workflow so marketing, media, and design could collaborate more consistently across campaigns. This was proved during events like KickStart where we had to time the video launch with the website launch, also posting it on the framer site. To support future iterations, I integrated Framer Analytics and Microsoft Clarity so the team could track user behaviour and improve the experience using real engagement data.

Impact
A step forward in club website design
The redesigned site received overwhelmingly positive feedback from members, alumni, and other student organizations. We saw increased event registrations and much stronger engagement with our project and community-focused content after launch. The work also led to another club approaching me for a website redesign, which validated the impact of the new direction beyond BizTech itself. Most importantly, the redesign gave BizTech a scalable digital foundation that better represented the creativity, ambition, and people behind the organization.

Reflection
A club that kickstarted my passion
This project taught me that effective community design is less about making something look impressive and more about making people feel represented. What began as a website refresh became an exercise in brand strategy, leadership, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration. I learned how to balance the needs of sponsors, executives, alumni, and students while maintaining a single coherent vision for the platform. Looking back, the most rewarding part was creating a space that finally showcased the people and projects that make UBC BizTech meaningful.

Let’s work together.
